Chicago Wedding Dress Designer Highlight | Sarah Varca Bridal
“A Reputation to Uphold”
The Varca Bride is unafraid to be bold. She is someone who rolls up at a happy hour on a Wednesday, in a Dior skirt paired with a vintage t-shirt and kicks with a laid back air about her.
From ball gowns with leather piping, to sequin jumpsuits with matching feathered jackets, Sarah Varca, a local Chicago designer, designs for the badass brides looking to stand out on their wedding day. I had the opportunity to meet with Sarah this week and chat with her about her new collection, Reign On Me, some of her favorite pieces she’s made and just exactly who the Varca Bride is. Varca’s trunk show for the new collection is currently at Belle Bridal Atelier‘s brand new shop, located at 1755 N. Damen through Sunday October 18. The designer is a part of their permanent collection. I also got a sneak peak and tour of the brand new Atelier from Owner, Giselle Ghofrani. More on that later!
When entering the Atelier, you immediately could feel the creativity bursting from Sarah as she walked me through the collection and spoke to what inspires her. The emerging designer has often quoted herself with saying “I have more ideas than my hands could ever keep up with!” The Reign On Me collection ($2,800-$8,000) speaks volumes to this statement; with a body positive eye and a bespoke approach to creating her gowns the collection is approachable, outside of the box and down right fun!
Okay, let’s get down to brass tax. The dresses…Reign, is the first ball gown that Varca has brought to life, and all I can say is she is fabulous. This dress is large, in charge and echo’s Varca’s philosophy of made for fabulous ladies, made with love, and I am 100% here for it. Veronica has sleeves that are seriously meant for a queen to rock on her big day. By far my favorite dress was Cheyenne, which coincidentally enough, is also Sarah’s too. Sarah explained that though each of the dresses in the collection have a female name, the name Cheyenne comes from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Being a Wyoming native, Sarah drew inspiration from this special place to bring Cheyenne to life. Can I get a heck yes from my Colorado brides??
I also enjoyed learning a little more about Sarah’s process and how each dress is custom made for her clients, whether it is from a collection specifically or is start to finish custom from a client’s vision. During her process, Sarah takes 27 different measurements to make sure your dress fits you perfectly. There is nothing Sarah takes more seriously than making sure you feel fabulous on your wedding day. Additionally, putting her trust in the Atelier’s in house couture alterations, The Workroom at Belle, the Varca collection is easily accessible for the bride who has a reputation to uphold.
