4 Ways to Pick the Perfect Florist

So you are a few months into your wedding planning and have your incredible venue booked, your caterer selected, and your photographer on standby. Now what?... FLORAL that’s what! This is one of our absolute FAVORITE parts of the planning process- but it can be very intimidating to find the perfect florist. Here are 4 great tips to get you on your way to finding your flawless florist:

1-      Take to Pinterest! Imagery is HUGE in the wedding world- what better way is there for wedding professionals to see exactly what your vision is than giving them actual pictures to work with? Making sure you are organized with your boards and have a quick place to show your florist some of your favorite designs is SUPER important. One thing that you need to be aware of however is that some images can be very elaborate (some images are actually from what we call Styled Shoot in the wedding industry and they are for inspiration but not duplication)- know that your florist might have to pair back the design concept- unless you have an unlimited wedding floral budget! (Don’t we all dream!) Also check to see the florist that has created the designs you are in love with on pinterest- are they local? Or maybe they know someone who is local to where your wedding will be that has a similar design aesthetic. A great way to start the search!

2-      Research, research, research! Take to the search engines! Also a HUGE site for all things wedding is The Knot- (one of our personal FAVS!)  It has EVERYTHING a girl could ask for. Local Vendors in your area, color scheme ideas, and links to their pinterest page. It’s all there! When you are on The Knot be sure to look up local florist that have either a large portfolio, great reviews, or have won The Knot Best of Award- or is even in The Knot Hall of Fame.

You also will want to make sure that you are visiting the florist direct website- check on reviews and be sure that you love the images and portfolio that they posted. Does it look recently updated? Is there a lot of great content? Is it easy to navigate? All of these things can be an indicator that the florist is current with wedding trends and has a customer service based business.

3-      MEET them! You don’t have to get together with all the vendors that will be a part of your day- but we recommend that you do meet with the floral designer as they will have such a huge visual impact on your décor. When you meet them be sure that you click with their personality as this is a HUGE indicator that they will be able to translate your vision. Does the florist listen first to what your ideas are? Do they give you a realistic perspective to work on with your individualized budget? Do they seem to know a lot about design and of in-season floral? These are some great questions to think about!

4-      Know you will get together 1-2 more times before the wedding. Make sure that the florist that you meet with has a great grasp on your design vision. Have they gone through the list of floral that is needed for your wedding day? This might take a few times getting together to talk about the wedding. The professional that you choose to work with should truly have no problem meeting additional times to get the look just right- however keep it to 2-3 total meetings. You don’t need to get together with your florist every time a small item on your wedding list changes. You will want to stick to the big vision as well as any budget changes that have come up during the planning.
